My contributions to the world

Teaching is one half of the work. These are the things built to keep going without me.

  1. Freyja

    Friendship and relationship, un-gamified.

Matching on the values people actually hold — for friendship and shared interest as much as for partnership. Seventeen intimacy questions, two swipes a day, and no advertising.

  2. Aggora Coin

A currency that decays, like everything alive.

A currency built on demurrage: every coin loses 0.5% a month, and the value lost funds the city its holder chooses. Linear issuance, no premine.

  3. Reviving the I-Ching

An ancient instrument, back in working order.

Teaching, writing and translation work to return the I-Ching to living practice rather than museum shelf.

Why any of this is built at all

Gandhi's argument was that the means are the ends, in the process of becoming — that you cannot arrive at a decent society through indecent machinery, however good the intention behind it.

That is the test I hold these three to. An app that rebuilds friendship cannot run on the mechanics of a slot machine. A currency meant to free people from usury cannot be launched as something to speculate on. Reviving a practice cannot mean making people dependent on the person teaching it.

Where any of this work fails that test, it is the work that is wrong.
